Parents are children’s first and main educators, we have therefore developed a variety of materials to help parents support their children’s learning experiences.

Altram

The voice for Irish Medium Early Years

Altram is the lead regional organisation which promotes high quality Irish Medium Early Years Education and supports family involvement as a keystone in the development of an Irish language community. Altram is a non-profit making organisation and delivers a wide range of services to the Irish Medium Early Years sector, including training, resource development and support for practitioners, parents and management.

What we do

As the lead regional support organisation for the Irish Medium Early Years sector, Altram has been delivering services since 1990. It was founded by local Irish Medium preschools in Derry, Belfast, Armagh and Newry.  Altram was established to:

  • Support Provision

    Altram provides support for Irish Medium Early Years services

  • Promote the Sector

    Altram promotes the importance of the early years in Irish Medium education

  • Improve Standards

    Altram’s main aim is to improve standards of provision in the Irish Medium Early Years Education sector

  • Provide Resources

    Altram develops resources to support good quality Irish Medium Early Years Education and Irish immersion experiences

Safeguarding

Altram offers ‘Keeping Safe’ training which is a recognised safeguarding training programme. This training is available to our members groups only.

External Training

Altram regularly commissions external training providers to deliver relevant training to our members. We signpost appropriate training for the sector also. Contact us for further information.

Management Clinics

As part of our role we provide a support service to Irish medium early years management committees. We often work in conjunction with relevant stakeholders to host management clinics which provide advice and guidance. Contact us for further information.
